Interview witrh Zwartroest

2004

At first: While hearing your previous release "Kampen Fortsætter", I have these visions of burning churches. Non of the bands I've ever heard are able to tell their meanings in a way like you do. It's nice to know that my message is coming through.Could you give a detailed introduction to yourself, for the people who haven't ever heard of Angantyr before?

Certainly.
Hails people!
I'm Ynleborgaz. Founder and sole member of Angantyr.
In 1997, Angantyr was all about ambient music. Slow, cold, depressing.
Then I started to write lyrics. In my opinion vocals and ambient does not mix, so I decided to create music that would reflect the brutality and fierceness of my lyrics, and Angantyr was born. Harsh, raw yet melodic Blackmetal.Manifestations so far:

Endeløs demo 1998
Kampen Fortsætter cd-r 2000 - CD/LP/Tape 2004
Norden Stolte Krigere demo 2001 - dedication tape to Domgård
Sejr Tape/CD/LP+7" 2004 - recorded in 2002

Congratulations with your new album "Sejr" it once again have become an icecold jewel, is must say. Are you satisfied about it in comparison with you're previous releases?

Thanks a lot. Yes I'm very satisfied with it. The only things that irritates me, is that the release was delayed almost 2 years

Can you explain the album title?SEJR is the Danish word for VICTORY.What kind of response on your latest release do you have?

I'm really surprised at how good the response have been.
Normally you have a good mix between bad, neutral and good reviews, but this time it has all been good. Glad you like the album guys.

The albumcover of "Kampen Fortsætter", what are you trying to express there? It's pretty obvious don't you think? A big black boot crushing a church.Could you tell us the ideology behind your music?Hatred towards Christianity for destroying Denmark's pride and beauty with their weak hypocrisy.Angantyr seems to be a way for you to express yourself against christianity, right? Why do hate Christianity, what was the urge to have these believes and how did you get this perspective?

From the moment you are born, you get your throat stuffed with Christianity. All around you are people condemning you for not being a christian.
People have no clue that a long time ago, this land was among the proudest and most prosperous in the north, and who is to blame for that? That's right, christianity.
If they hadn't stuffed their monotheistic crap down our throats and eradicated almost all of our proud history, then just maybe, people would have been a little more national minded today, and we wouldn't have this huge immigration problem.

Have you ever had troubles with some religious fanatics because of your music ?

I have had some fierce discussions on the streets of Copenhagen with some born again bible-fanatics who wanted to "Save" me.And back in 1997 when the Danish Blackmetal Conspiracy played an awesome show on the Danish island of Bornholm, a whole fucking church community of 200 people appeared and prayed for them. Laying their hands on the walls of the building, wanting to cleanse it.The Danish Blackmetal Conspiracy existed in the period of 1994-2000.
It consisted of the following 6 bands:

Vindsvaler, Skjold, Aranruth, Vigrid, Hugin and Gromgard.

All of these bands are split up now, and most of the members are involved with other Danish bands.

On musically grounds, on what bands are you inspired?

It's hard to say. I try to be as original as possible, but of course there is some subconscious link between my musical interests and creations.
But then again, I mostly listen to my own creations.

Angantyr is a one-man band, will this always be like that? Or do you prefer to have some members?

In 2001 I tried out 3 guys as live-members, but that didn't work out, and I haven't really thought about it since then.
Angantyr is very personal to me, so it would be really hard to find suitable live members, who would put up with playing exactly what I told them to.

Have you got any other side projects?

Holmgang, Tågefolket, Zahrim, Draug, Make A Change… Kill Yourself!

Why should we buy Sejr and Kampen Fortsætter?

I don't care if you buy it or not. Suit yourselves.
If you like it, buy it. If you don't… well don't
I like it, therefore I create it.

What more can we expect of Angantyr?

A split LP with Nasheim from Sweden is planned for 2005, and their will be a new album some night.

Is there anything you would like to share with your fans?

Nice to know that there are likeminded people out there.

Well, I've got no more further questions thanks for this interview!

No problem. Thanks for the interest. Keep an eye out for
"Make A Change… Kill Yourself" it will be out in 2005 on Total Holocaust Records.
