Interview with a german "hardcore" barefooter

By Franco Spatz and webmaster @barefooted.dk
(Translated from german)

How old are you?
I am 31 years old. My sign is Leo.

Are you male or female?
I am male.

Where do you live?
I live in Germany, in the Ruhrgebiet. My city is called Essen. My address is:
Franco Spatz
Billebrinkhöhe 48
45136 Essen
Phone: 0174/6460069

How long have you been barefoot?
I am running barefoot for more than 11 years. In all weather and at any occation.

Why and how did you start barefooting?
11 years ago, as I was walking around in town, I saw a young group of people who were walking barefoot. Then I thought that I would go to them, and then asked them why they were walking barefoot. One told me that it is healthy for the feet and back muscles. The other said that in shoes they would just get blisters or Schürfverletzungen. Now, as I was living with my parents in the beginning, I always sneaked secretly outside the house at that time to try it myself. Naturally I always had canvas sneakers in my bag. Then when somebody saw me, then I had quickly pulled the shoes on again, and when the crowd was gone, I once again got rid of my shoes.

How did your family and friends react?
In the beginning my family was quite against it, as was my friends and others. But after a short period they have accepted me as I am. Many admire me, others give me compliments. I, myself, hear only a little negative about it. Anybody shall live his/her life, as we only live once.

How do people on the street react?
I am barefooting everywhere, i.e.: Cinema, Grocery store, metros, buses (public transportation), dicos, restaurants, bars, eventually everywhere. Most people astonish over me, find it good, there is for sure a small number that don't find it so nice, but that doesn't bother me, as I don't have any inferiority complex anymore in this intention. I also think that many envy me, because I'm different, because I'm colourful, or because I regard myself as a Hippie.

Do you wear foot jewelry? If yes, what footjewelry do you wear?
Yes, I wear foot jewelry. Zum einen trage ich shoewels, 8 toe rings (4 on each side). I have painted my toe nails in colourful colours (in Schwarzlicht they light up, so that nobody steps on my feet) and I wear bells around the ankles, so that I can be heard 10 yards away. It is fun when people look around them selves and ask themselves where it comes from.

How did your family and friends react on your foot jewelry?
My parents were earlier irritated by the bells only, but for a long time they have accepted me as I am. I find my jewelry on the feet very wonderful. My friends and acquaintances find it fun, but good too. They say that it suits me.

How do people on the street react on it?
The people on the street find it good, that it can also be different. Many say that many people are walking so monotonous around and when I meet them, they are happy. They don't turn around on me, no, they ask me why I run around like that. I tell them that it is my way of living and that it is healthy and that it makes me feel well. For the last 11 years I have'nt had any shoes, not even sandals (and I still don't).

Are you barefoot the whole year?
(In what month do you start being barefoot?)
(In what month do you stop being barefoot?)
I am running barefoot since 11 years. In winter, as in spring, as in summer, and in fall. All four seasons, every day and in winter, down to -20º C. Until I die, I will go shoeless through the world. I enjoy it every day to also enjoy the ceiling from below. I am even snowboarding barefoot. The board was manufactured for me.

Have you talked people into going barefoot?
How many and how?

In the last years I have talked many into going barefoot. But most of them are only barefoot in the summer. But most of them are only barefoot in the summer time. And still they have the same opninion as I, that running barefoot is fun. I have alltogether as of today been able to persuate more than 50 people.

Are other persons in your family barefoot?
Who and why?

My mom is once in a while going barefoot around the block with me and our cats. My stepdad works barefoot in the garden.

Do you have many barefoot friends?
Yes, I have many barefoot frinds. Men as well as ladies. I also like to go dancing with them and we are always having fun.

Where are you barefoot and where are you not?
As I just mentioned: I run barefoot everywhere, even on a skatingtrack.

Are you barefoot in the school/at your work?
I am self-employed and I am my own boss. I have 30 employees and they don't have any problems with it, that I am different. I am an artist and decorator.

When you cannot be barefoot, do you then wear shoes or sandals (or something else)?
When I take shoes on it is only for funerals or for very big occations. Then I take my hippie sandals out of the closet.

Du you have an advice for people who want to start barefooting?
Do you have an advice for people who want to wear foot jewelry?
Dear people, you only live once. Enjoy your life. We were born naked and will go naked from this world. Live in freedom and don't let you mess around with. Go barefoot where you want. It is healthy and it is wonderful and surely erotic. And when you wear foot jewelry, then just do it as it won't hurt your feet.

Do you think/know if it is healthy to go barefoot?
Personally I think that it is healthy to run barefoot, in stead of running around in too small shoes. Then the feet will not deform anymore when you walk barefoot. When you are barefoot then the foot can also breathe. Moreover my physician says that it is healthier to run barefoot than with shoes.

What have you heard/read about it?
Two years ago someone got to my attention that there was a home page about barefooting. Well, I visited the page and was astonished that there were like-minded people that also think like I do. And immediately I made myself the goal to found a barefoot site. Many have also helped me, but also disappointed. But I am glad that my site still at the same time belong to the best. AND IT IS NO fetisch site. It is available for everybody on this entire planet.

Do you know any links to it?
At least I saw the links when I was at the first page. My recommendations are:
www.Barfusszone.de,
www.Barfuss.ch,
www.Hobby-Barfuss.de,
www.barefooted.dk,
www.sweetstreetfeet.com.
Have fun when you check them out. But these links are also my favourites.

Du you have a home page?
What is its name and URL?
And at the end: Everyone of this world can see my barefoot site. Everyone are welcome. There you will see like-minded poeple that think like I do. You can admire my barefoot gallery that is divided into 20 categories, you can write in my guest book, or debate in my forum or send me an e-mail, or send me barefoot photos of yourself, of others, for my coming updates. My site is called: www.Barfusszone.de, or my e-mail: Franco@Barfusszone.de. Best wishes for everyone, and don't get blisters or cut wounds.

Peace and bye, Franco
