Mac OS X Lion, Snow Leopard, Leopard : Download BootCamp Drivers

updated October 2012. Go to the newer http://www.cafe-encounter.net/p682/download-bootcamp-drivers.

See BootCampESD.pkg download instructions for the DIY instructions on how to work out these links yourself.

Older download links for Windows drivers for Mac models to 2011

Use these instructions if BootCamp Assistant fails to download the drivers for you.

  1. Find your model in the table below. Click the link to get the download package. Be patient as they are 600MB to over 1GB.
    • Q: How do you find out your Mac's Model Identifier?
A: Open System Information, and look in the Hardware Overview section.
In other words: Click Apple menu -> About this Mac -> More Info… -> System Report -> Hardware. Now, read down list in the Hardware Overview panel, looking for Model Identifier
  2. Once your pkg is downloaded, double click it and install to a folder on your hard drive so you know where to find it.
  3. The folder contains a nest of folders, the last of which contains a dmg disk image file. Double click to open. Voila. Here are your Windows installer files.
  4. Copy them to a usb drive, or a burnable CD. NB, it's 600MB or even over 1GB. A CD is usually max 800MB.
  5. Done. You can now proceed with Boot Camp assistant Windows installation.

  1. How do I get the boot camp drivers for Windows XP? I have an older mac 5,2 but do not want to upgrade. Cannot find my old DVDs and had to reinstall XP on the other partition. But now no more mouse or keyboard features work and power gets eaten up fast. Thank you ~ George

  2. I tried downloading the mackbook pro 8,1 version but when I’m installing it it says the installer encountered a problem that caused the installation to fail. Can you please help me? Im running osx lion.

    1. Hi Luis, this can be caused by a bad download – simplest next step is to re-download the file. Do use the newer download on http://www.cafe-encounter.net/p682/download-bootcamp-drivers-for-macs-with-mountain-lion-inc-2012-retina-display though.
If that doesn’t fix it, I would next try starting the Windows install from scratch again.
No quick fixes that I know of I’m afraid, except for double checking that you got the right download link.
      Cheers, Chris

  3. I was trying to install the imac 12,1 file. It downloaded about 300 mb then when I checked it again it was cancelled automatically. Can you help me??
    Thanx.

    1. Yes! First get hold of a download manager such as igetter.net, and use that. With a download manager, if the download stops half way, you can re-start it later when your internet connection is working again.

  4. Hi there!

I was wondering if I could deleted the nest of files from the Mac after I got the requried drivers installed in my Windows? 🙂

  5. i down loaded your MacBook Pro 9,1 and unzipped, mounted on usb ext, on windows, how do you instal the drivers im so confused… the files i get are bom, package info, payload & scripts. and they are all un openable in windows 7, it comes with the brows program option or search online option, but internet wont work on windows. please help man. i dont have internet at my house so im using it at my grandmas.

  6. i re installed it into my library folder, found the dog and i’m copying onto my usb as i type, i hope i.m doing the right thing, i’m going to restart into windows and click on the dog and see if it does its thing, am i doing this right? i dint know much about windows.

  7. My goodness; what patients you have with answering questions!

I downloaded, burned, and installed the 8.2 version. All is well EXCEPT for my trackpad and control + f1-12 options. I have had a partition before and from my understanding i was able to left/right click and scroll using the trackpad, as well as use the mac’s f1-12 operations. I have ran the installer again and clicked the ‘Repair’ option, no luck.
Also, i remember extra options in the start menu, nothing is there.

Am i doing something wrong? Thanks 🙂

    1. Hi Dan, Yes I failed to plan an exit strategy – I could have done with a forum instead of blog posts.
Anyway – I note, now that you raise the point, that the MacBookPro8,2 occurs in TWO of the above downloads. I double checked Apple’s dist files and they really have listed it twice. Could you try the other one? I believe that the 041-2011 one – the second one – is probably correct.
      Let me know? Cheers, Chris

  8. Hi Chris,

A few hours after the post my download directly from the BootCamp application finished and I was able to use that :X

    Sorry for the confusion!
    Dan

  9. Dear Chris,

Just a note of thanks for posting these boot camp drivers. They are one of the few things that actually worked for setting up boot camp!

  10. Once you burn the files to a DVD/CD, is the process complete? Or do you have to switch to windows and save them onto the windows partition?
