Design and style from a Scandinavian perspective

The Exchange

I found this amazing hotel on the April and May blog and I just had to show it here! It's called The Exchange and is located in Amsterdam. The concept is "rooms dressed like models", styled by students of the Amsterdam Fashion Institute. Which room is your favorite?

Christmas calendars

There is still time to make an advent calendar for someone you love! But time is short, so make it a simple one, like any of these.

I am making the whole blog into a Christmas calendar! Starting on Thursday Dec 1 there will be great giveaways here every day up until Christmas eve, as a little way of saying thank you to all of my fantastic readers.

And the winner is...

I'd like to announce the winner of the giveaway of the super cool skull print cushion from Bolina... Congratulations Anna Sofie, you now no longer have to look like a sausage getting out of your rope chair!
A lot of you said you were going to buy the cushion if you didn't win it, so here is a direct link to the cushion in the webshop.

Fashionable apartment from Bolaget

It can't all be about holiday decorating... So as a little break from all that Christmas stuff, let's have a look at this apartment for sale at Bolaget. I don't know who lives here, but it looks like someone in the fashion business, right?

The darker side of Christmas

I love me a little dark and moody Christmas inspiration! It doesn't all have to be white and bright, greys and browns are perfect for winter decorating too.

Getting ready for Christmas

It seems you are all ready to start thinking about decorating for the holidays, so I will just keep the Christmas pics flowing here! The photos below are what I would like my own Christmas to look like. Lots of white, natural elements and paper details. And of course, tiny trees. In my dreams I will have time to make a black Himmeli too.

STAY Copenhagen Hotel

If anyone is interested in seeing which hotel the pictures in the last post is from, it's STAY Copenhagen. A design hotel totally decked out in Hay furniture, both their own designs and other brands available in their shops. You can stay for as long or short periods as you like, and it is even possible to buy your own apartment, with or without hotel services.

Minimalist Christmas at the design hotel

It's that time of the year again. I've held back on all the Christmas stuff until now, but since it is the first Advent Sunday next weekend, I guess it is time now. Or do you think it's too early? Am I stressing you out? I wanted to start off carefully, not to overwhelm anyone, so I chose some photos that aren't "over-the-top-christmassy".

I found this article in Bo Bedre about a couple staying at a stylish design hotel for a whole year while their house is being built. Of course they are celebrating the holidays there too, so now they have decorated the hotel studio apartment for Christmas. It's quite minimalistic, and I like the idea of spraypainting the tree and bay leaf wreath to get it to match the interiors. And I'm totally convinced that my own Christmas tree this year will be one of those tiny ones in a pot, preferably one that looks a little threadbare and wonky!

A winner has been picked!

Last week's giveaway of the two Calabash pendants from Lightyears is closed and a winner has been picked. And the winner is... Claudia! (Who by the way has a very nice tumblr blog.) Congratulations Claudia! I'd love to see the finished corner of the room where you said you wanted to put them because it sounded really stylish with the black walls and driftwood sculpture!

Babylonstoren

Babylonstoren in South Africa is a stylish luxury hotel and a working farm at once, where guests can enjoy the pleasure of hand-picking their own crops and experience how it feels to play it on the safe side and be a "chic farmer".

Congratulations Annaleena!

The Swedish bloggosphere has been filled with posts about Lotta Agaton's styling class this fall, and the final exam was to style a shoot, photographed by Pia Ulin, for Therese Sennerholt's new poster collection. The best photo is going to be the official campaign photo. Lotta just published all the pictures on Facebook and announced that the winner is my sweet and talented friend Annaleena, who writes the Try This at Home posts for my blog. A big congrats to Annaleena for doing such an excellent job! Her photo is amazing, but all of the others are great too, so I'm showing some of my favourites here. Enjoy!

The competition is for the black version of the Calabash, but I just can't resist adding these wonderfully styled photos of the gold and silver versions...

Saturday Sweets + a winner

I got a question this week asking for bathroom inspiration, and as I looked through my files I realized it was time to upload some of the photos to the blog so you all can enjoy them. Here you go!

In other news, the winner of the art print giveaway from L'Affiche Moderne has now been chosen. And the winner is... *drumroll* Åsa, who wants to improve her relationship to cats and is wishing for the Cats of the World print by Gemma Correll, thinking an art print could be a good place to start. Congrats, and I hope it helps!

Emmas Designblogg on Pinterest

I just wanted to let you know that you can find me on Pinterest, here! So when the updates on the blog are too far apart for your taste, just click the P for Pinterest in the left column and you will find my boards there, full of wonderful photos. Welcome to join me over there!

Hues by Tina Hellberg

Interior stylist Tina Hellberg created these wonderful pictures together with photographer Magnus Anesund. You can find most of the photos in the latest copy of Elle Interiör, but one of them didn't make the cut, so that one (the shot of the desk from above) is exclusively shown here.
The theme is hues, or colours, and I love the unexpected colour combinations. Who thought that yellow and pink would look so good together?

Giveaway from L'Affiche Moderne!

My sponsor L'Affiche Moderne, an online gallery where you can get lots of great artprints and photos, is giving away a big print from their shop! If you are the lucky winner you get to choose which print you would like. The size is 50x70 cm, worth 59€. (Fits nicely in the Ribba frame from Ikea)

To enter and get a chance to win, just answer this question in the comment field below:
Q: Which print from L'Affiche Moderne is your favourite and why?

The giveaway closes on the night of Friday Nov 11.

Below are a few of my own favourites!

Saturday Sweets

A bag full of sweet photos matching the dreary November weather outside my window. All the colourful leaves have fallen now, and left is only grey and brown hues. A thin layer of snow would be nice, to brighten things up a bit, but since we are having unseasonably warm temperatures this autumn, that probably won't happen for a while. On the other hand, it's really nice to be able to pick mushrooms in November, while we were up to our knees in snow this time last year.

Blog tips!

Annaleena wrote a post about their latest project in the styling class lead by Lotta Agaton that she and some other very talented ladies are attending. One of the pictures she showed caught my eye, and it was styled by Ica Carlsson, who just started her own blog. It looks very promising, have a look here.
