PROJECT: Dedicated Youth Hospital, Skejby, Denmark

AREA: 2300m2

TEAM:
Line Frier and Mads Dyssel Engel

YEAR:
2010

STATUS:
Exhibited at the Utzon Centre, Aalborg in 2010.

As a result of studies in how the architectural layout of hospitals can help ease the healing process for young patients, a design proposal was created. A Dedicated Youth Hospital intended as a part of The New University Hospital in Skejby, designed by C. F. Møller architects. The project proposes a novel spatial approach where a curved space-dividing wall cuts through the otherwise rigid hospital layout creating a series of inviting, rational and functional spaces including common leisure spaces where patients can engage in social activities. Three patients share a living space; this space is divided in two zones making it possible for the young patient to choose his own level of privacy.
