White, painful bumps on the tip of my tongue for past 4 days, and a swolen lip.

I have been experiencimg great discomfort for the past four days and nights due to a few little white bumps on the tip of my tongue.

I have been rinsing my mouth out with listerine, using the listerine pocket-packs, salt and water, brushing consistently, even anbesol GEL and its still not healing, it may even be getting worst. I even tried pouring salt right on the bumps and left it until my eyes started to water.

My lip as well as been cut for the same amount of time and is swollen and in pain as well. It almost looks like theres a whitehead pimple in the middle of the cut. I've even tried pouring salt right into that cut as well. I sure felt it.

Is there anyway this could just be the result of a minor cigarette or joint burn? Or is this something serious?

I am really tired of feeling this pain on the tip of my tongue and lip, if anyone can possibly help me or recommend something, I would greatly appreciate it.

Pouring salt on an open wound is not the appropriate treatment. It sounds like a local viral infection. If it persists for more than 7 to 10 days see an oral surgeon for a definitive diagnosis. It doesn't sound serious but any sore that doesn't heal must be investigated.A steriod ointment would be beneficial but you need a prescription for that.

Hey there.....I get these little white bumps on my tongue all the time too. They are tiny and painful! I get them on both sides of my tongue and on the tip. I noticed that i get them after working several work shifts in a row and thought they were canker sores. I went to my dentist during one of these times and he said they were NOT canker sores but appeared to be from trauma. He thought they were from rubbing on sharp points on my teeth (i talk alot more when at work i guess). Anyway, he filed off the sharp edges and i didn't get them again for a while. Now starting to develop them again, and i can pinpoint it to when i drink alot of really hot coffee or pizza or something. Let us know what you learn and how you turn out!

I've had a swollen tongue, and little bumps on my tongue, which after a few days, went to not being able to taste anything what so ever and I'm worried that it might be an infection or something. I went to the doctor's and they took some cultures, but I want some kind of assurance until I get my results back.

i have a problem too with my tongue. there's something, tiny white or pink like a bristle or anything. but it's painful when i try to touch it with my teeth. it's at the tip of my toungue and sometimes it's hurt when i lick my lips or something. im trying to cut or pulling it off but it's hurt. i thought i just bite my tongue but it's been a few months. well, i always use listerine everytime i brush my teeth. and there's no more problem with my mouth. it's just that tiny thing. it's bothers me a lot because i can always feel it. amd it hurts.

thanks and hoping you could help me to get rid of it.

I HAVE A SOMEWHAT SIMILAR STORY, I HAD A FILLING FALL OUT OF A TOOTH AND EVENTUALLY THE TOOTH BEGAN TO ACHE. I WAS UP TO 4 800MG IBUPROFINS EVERY 8 HOURS BEFORE GOING TO THE DENTIST.

THE TOOTH HAD BECOME INFECTED AND WAS VERY DIFFICULT GETTING PULLED. THE DAY THE TOOTH WAS PULLED I NOTICED A SCRATCH ON MY LIP IN THE VERY CENTER. TWO DAYS LATER THE SCRATCH HAD OPENED UP AND WAS A PAINFULL CUT WHICH WAS WHITE IN THE CENTER, THE NEXT DAY I DEVELOPED A CANKER SORE INSIDE MY MOUTH THAT WAS ALSO WHITE AND VERY SORE. THE SORE WENT AWAY IN THREE DAYS, BUT THE CUT ON MY LIP DID NOT HEAL, IT HAS BEEN 16 DAYS NOW AND I'M GOING TO SEE A DOCTORS ABOUT IT.

It started about 4-5 days ago. I am not sure if the bumps on the tip of my tongue are related to the cut on my lip or not.

I think i may have burned my lip somehow while under the influence this weekend, but I'm not sure. I can't remember it happening. I'll  stay away from acidic foods and beverages if that helps, and I will stop with the "harsh" methods.

I read that oral herpes show up as little red bumps on your tongue, or as white bumps on the end of your tongue. Do you think I might have this? Being that i have about three white bumps on the end of my tongue that are pretty painful?

Regardless, I think I'm going to go get it checked out the lastest Saturday. I really hope I'm over-reacting...any comments you have I will greatly appreciate.

I'm not sure what you have going on. Did you get a cut on your lip and then this came up? Or did it just come up gradually? Please don't use any of these harsh things anymore I think you are making it worse by agrovating it. Maybe some Colgate Peroxal would help. Use a mild toothpaste. Maybe even watch what you eat acidic things will bug this thing too. Like ketchup, tomtoes, orange juice, etc. When did this come up? I wouldn't wait more than about a week before I went to the dentist or a medical doctor. Problems in your mouth usually start to heal in about 7-10 days. I'm not sure but maybe it is some kind of herpes? Ice can also help. Motrin-if you can take that might help with the pain. Don't hold asprin in your mouth either. (I think that is something some older people recommend) Please let me know more info. or if I can help. Let me know if you go to dr. I would like to know what this is also.

I'm scared you might have some kind of herpes. Sorry. Maybe you should go see someone-probably a dentist-before the weekend. You don't want to go through a weekend with this pain. Let me know how it works out. Hey, don't wait until Friday. A lot of M.D.s and dentist are not open on Fridays. Call tomorrow. Do you have a regular dentist? If not you may want to see a M.D. if you have a regular one of those. A lot of doctors don't want to see new patients that are in pain. Or maybe you have like a Urgent Care place in your area? They take walk-ins in my area. Good-luck!
