LATEST FORECAST Kearney, NE

Kyle's Cast:

We are continuing to monitor the potential for severe weather the next couple of days. Starting with tonight's chance, showers and storms are expected to develop ahead of a surface low and behind a warm front near the KS/CO/NE border. All hazards are possible, which include large hail, damaging winds, and even a couple of tornadoes. With that said, a Tornado Watch is in effect for parts of SW Nebraska and NW Kansas until 10 PM CDT tonight. Storms will initially be discrete and will then become linear over time and into the overnight hours tonight as they move east. As the surface low pressure system tracks across Nebraska tomorrow, more showers and storms are expected throughout the day, with more severe weather forecast for primarily eastern Nebraska in the afternoon. Discrete supercell thunderstorms are anticipated to form along the cold front/dryline associated with the low by early afternoon in eastern NE and will quickly intensify as they move east into a very unstable environment. All severe hazards will once again be possible tomorrow afternoon, including large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes, some of which could be strong according to the Storm Prediction Center (SPC). Make sure to pay attention to the forecast tomorrow with the severe weather potential. The activity will wind down tomorrow night, and we'll see a break from the rain for most of Saturday, but more showers and storms, some of which could once again be severe, will materialize Saturday afternoon with southeastern areas favored for more severe weather. Scattered showers and storms will continue all day Sunday before moving out Sunday night. Additional slight precipitation chances are in the forecast most days next week as the overall weather pattern looks to remain active. Temperatures will be very spring-like in the 60s and 70s most days this next week. We will see a cooldown on Sunday, however, with highs only expected to be in the 50s and low 60s, but next week will be warmer.
