Civ5 Battle Royal Season 4: New episodes

By | May 4, 2024

The Civ5 Battle Royale is huge but the concept of the show is pretty simple! On a massive world map, 61 AI Civilizations go at it to see which one can be the last one standing. No human intervention in the show as a several months long game is recorded and then curated into episodes across the action. Right now the community has arrived at the 6th episode already. If you are curious, then check them out here.

Great House Of Calderia: Crusader Kings 3 has a rival as beloved grand strategy game hits 1.0

By | May 3, 2024

FireSquid games, the organizers of Tacticon, have released a new game, “Great House Of Calderia“. PCGamesN has also published an article called “Crusader Kings 3 has a rival as beloved grand strategy game hits 1.0“, which probably tells you why this is interesting for us.
Great House Of Calderia is a grand strategy game, running in real time, so similar to the Paradox titles (e.g. Crusader Kings, obviously). You play in a fantasy renaissance setting, where you need to expand your lands, manage your family, conduct diplomacy, and maybe conquer the other countries in the surrounding.

The game has been discounted by 40% for the launch, and is right now available for 14.70 instead of 24.50 on Steam. It can also be caught in combination with Ozymandias, a neat snack-sized turn-based 4X game, for only 26.72 together.

New indie game release: Manor Lords

By | April 26, 2024

Today the game “Manor Lords” has become available in early access, after being for a long while Steam’s most anticipated game.
This city builder has been developed by a single person, and is published by Hooded Horse, who have also published Old World.
The setting of this game is in medieval Southern Germany, and your task is to build a wealthy town, research new technologies/upgrades, and maybe even field an army at the end.
The reviews so far are pretty positive, but note that more improvements are necessary, which are hopefully feasible for the full release.
Reviews:

If you want to feel like a medieval lord, the game is currently discounted down to 29.99 from 39.99, and is available on all major platforms. Get it on:

PCGamer: A new physics paper suggests that we may all be living in the ultimate 4X strategy game after all

By | April 23, 2024

PCGamer has today published an article called “A new physics paper suggests that we may all be living in the ultimate 4X strategy game after all“. Most people here have probably watched the Matrix, a similar movie, read a book in this vein, etc: We could be all living in a simulation.
Apparently a new physics paper was published, which puts together a theory that if we are living in a simulation, then parts of the simulation could be added or deleted, that new underlying hardware could be added, etc. This would allow to explain why sometimes information is missing, such as the hypothesized “dark matter”, which is not proven, but necessary to explain our current cosmos. Apparently there is itself not much more to this physics paper, and neither is to the PCGamer article.
The latter mentions Civ6 though:

But is the universe really a simulation or a computer game, played by an errant mega-being or two in another dimension? If it’s the latter, my money’s on it being a 4X strategy game, like an ultimate version of Civilization 6.

If you’re interested, then read the article here, and tell us here if you’re thinking you’re ruled by Monty.
If you’re not interested, then let us know how much you think this is probably junk ;).
