Three-Peat at John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate

Georgia State women's golf captured their third-straight John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate, and senior Cathrine Madsen became the second Panther in a row to earn medalist honors at Georgia State's home event, Tuesday afternoon at Eagle's Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Ga.

Madsen, tied for the lead at the end of the second round, out-dueled her playing partner by four shots en route to a final round 75 (+3), a total of 221 (+5), and her second career victory, the first since her 2008 Colonial Athletic Association championship win.

"I'm thrilled for my team," said Georgia State head coach Cathy Mant. "for playing under some very difficult conditions and performing well enough in the last round to bring home a victory."

"Three in a row is great, and I'm very happy for Cathrine, getting a win in her senior year. The biggest thing is that we got the monkey off our back when it comes to closing out a final round. This keeps us looking toward our season-long goal of playing in the national championship."

The Herning, Denmark native won the event by three shots, and picked up her third top-five, fifth top-10, and sixth top-25 on Georgia State's home course. Madsen's medalist is the first of the year for the Panthers, and the first since Sandra Maier's win at last year's John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate.

Junior Iliska Verwey finished five shots back of Madsen to earn her best finish of the season, a share of fourth place, after carding a final round 76 (+4). The last time Verwey finished fourth place or better was her second place finish at the 2009 Qdoba Invitational.

The Cradock, South Africa native played consistent golf all week, posting a pair of 75s on a difficult opening day and a 76 to finish, a welcome sight for the Panthers.

Senior Sandra Maier carded her best round of the event, a 73 (+1), to move up to 14th place on the final afternoon. Maier earns her third top-20 of the season.

Sophomore Charlotte Lorentzen was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard in the final round. Lorentzen would have finished one shot behind Maier's three-round total of 231 (+15), coming via a final round 80 (+8).

Freshman Ellie Robinson carded a final round 80 (+8) to finish in a tie for 20th place, the third top-20 of her career. Robinson held a share of second place at the end of the opening round after turning in a 73 (+1).

Playing as individuals, Nicole Loesch and Cherishton Brett finished 53rd and 70th, respectively. Loesch came away with one of only three eagles during the tournament, as she eagled the par-5 13th during the rainy first round.

The win marks the fourth time in school history that the Panthers have taken home the team title at the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate. Madsen becomes the third Georgia State golfer to earn medalist honors at the event.

Next up for the Panthers is the Liz Murphey Collegiate in Athens, Ga. taking place March 26-28.
