EKKI MINNA presents AUGMENTATIONS at Christianshavn Beboerhus

There EKKI MINNA will premiere works by Jeppe Just Christensen and Áslaug Magnúsdóttir, and perform a new work by Mads Emil Dreyer, all of which augment the duo’s instruments one way or another.

In ‘Miniature 6’ Mads Emil turns the duo’s instruments into resonating speakers that emit sine tones at slightly altered frequency from the instruments’ god-given sounds. The duo control the fun-house-mirror-music themselves with foot pedals, adding a kind of dancing choreography to the otherwise minimalist aesthetic of the piece.

Jeppe Just’s new work is based on his own homemade instruments, each with a guitar string and a metal slide under the string that moves back and forth, constantly tuning the string. In addition, the duo will have mounted harmonicas and sine-tone-producing machines. With these various elements, they will produce a series of big, thick and beautiful chords that fill the room with a strange uniqueness.

Finally, Áslaug Magnúsdóttirs augments the classical instruments with a subversive and mocking version of themselves; manipulated and deformed recordings and samples from the instruments are thrown full-force in the duo’s face as they desperately try to fight off the evil computer and recapture their original sound. A veritable fairy-tale for the modern age.

The duo have previously collaborated with Mads Emil and Áslaug Magnúsdóttir on various works, including ‘Vidder 1’ and ‘a lot of ANGELS’, which were just released on their debut album NO MORE NO LESS (Smekkleysa / Bad Taste Records):
