REFORM in times of crisis
What do you do when the war puts restrictions on how you do your job? For project coordinator Esra Obaid in REFORM, with an office in the West Bank, she and her colleagues had to think in new ways. The answer was training volunteers who in turn teach other volunteers how to protect themselves from explosives - both when they rain down around you, but also what to do when you find them undetonated on the ground.
Decolonizing the mind
The Tahitian parliamentarian Hinamoeura Morgant-Cross, or Hina as friends call her, was seven years old when the last nuclear bomb was tested in French Polynesia in 1996. Well, test is a word Hina wouldn’t use. – It wasn’t tests; it was bombs. And France detonated a lot of them, 193 to be exact, from the 1960s to the 1990s.
Grave concern over the situation in Sudan
On the 15th of April, one year will have passed since full scale civil war broke out in Sudan. The situation is beyond dire, over 8 million people are displaced from their homes and the UN recently warned that the population is facing catastrophic hunger. The hope of a democratic Sudan now seems far away, and the country is a glaring example of how fragile democratic transitional periods can be after a peaceful people led revolution.
